Boston Celtics looking at history books with 104-59 win over New York Knicks

The Boston Celtics and New York Knicks were trying to make history in yesterdays game. Well, maybe the New York Knicks weren't trying but they still found themselves in a historical setting. Everyone knows that the Boston Celtics are a great team this year but WOW! They beat the New York Knicks 104-59 Thursday, that's right 104-59! They won by 45 points! This doesn't happen everyday to a professional basketball team. The Knicks only scored 10 points in the third quarter. No Knick starter scored over 10 points, Jamal Crawford had the most for the starters with only 8 points, Richardson had 7, Marbury, Curry and Randalph had 4 each. The Knicks leading scorer was Nate Robinson who came off the bench for 10. When the first quarter was over the Celtics lead was 27-16 (up by 11), at haltime the Celtic lead was 54-31 (up by 23), at the end of the third the Celtic lead was 82-41 (up by 41) and the game ended 104-59 (a 45 point victory). This game was the Knicks third worst lose ever and the second least points they have ever scored in a game since the shot clock came into existence. It was the Celtics sixth biggest victory and the biggest since a 153-107 over the Baltimore Bullets in 1970. With the soap opera going in New York this may have been the official ending to Isiah Thomas job in New York. "We take two steps forward and one giant step back," Thomas said. "I don't know where this game came from. I thought we played extremely selfish tonight ... Definitely didn't see this type of game coming after the last two games we played. This was just not a good night." Knicks guard Stephon Marbury had this to say "Of course I am embarrassed. We lost by nearly 50 points, I'm angry. I'm always angry when I lose, but that was just flat-out embarrassing. To lose that bad was just ridiculous." Boston's big three all sat out the fourth quarter. Garnett left the game in the third quarter when Boston was up 69-34. "I can't even remember having that much rest," Garnett said. "It's good, because we have back-to-back games. Rest is important at this time." Paul Pirce and Ray Allen both had 21 points a piece for Boston in the game. Eddie House actually hit a 3-pointer to give Boston a 50-point lead, 93-43, with 8:53 to play in the game. This game was definately one to remember, unless of course your a New York Knick fan.

The last time a team won by 50 or more points was March 18, 2007, when Houston beat the 76ers 124-74 in Philadelphia.

The largest margin of victory in the shot-clock era is 68, when the Cavaliers beat the Heat 148-80 in Cleveland on Dec. 17, 1991.

The Knicks low game is 58 points on Dec. 15, 2000, against Utah.

The low for a Celtics opponent in the shot clock era is 57 points scored by Milwaukee at Providence on Feb. 27, 1955.

Sports Medicine

Sports medicine refers to many different areas of exercise and sports science that relate both to the enhancement of each athlete’s performance, and the care of any injury an athlete might sustain. Within the broad spectrum of sports medicine are areas of more limited specialization. These smaller areas of specialization include such things as clinical medicine, orthopedics, exercise physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology, physical therapy, athletic training, massage therapy, sports nutrition, and sports psychology. All told, these different specialists work together to keep today’s athletes, the best of the best, at the top of their own physical condition so they can play at their very best.

What should you do if you want to start a career in sports medicine? First of all, decide which area of sports medicine interests you the most. Some specializations, such as orthopedics, require medical school and specialized post-graduate training. Others require a master’s degree, such as that required for physical therapy. Still others require a certification which can be attained in two, three, or four years. Depending on the area of your interest, the amount of education you are willing to pursue, and the salary you wish to earn, the area of specialization you choose could be any one of the above choices.

When you begin to research the education needed for a career in sports medicine, there are some questions you should ask regardless of your final career choice. Does the college or university offer a specialized course in sports medicine? Do they have a long history with this area, or is it a newly added course? What amount of hands-on experience will you receive, and do they offer internships with professional teams? Finally, as with any university or college choice, cost matters. Will you qualify for financial aid? Can you afford to finish the course once you have begun? Once you have the answers to these questions, you are ready to begin your career.

Baseball Bat Cases

For an avid sports fan there is little that compares to having an item that is autographed by their favorite player. Baseball fans are always on the look-out for signed baseballs and bats. It’s not enough to get the ball or bat home. You also need a place where you can proudly display it. That’s why baseball cases and baseball bat cases are so important.

Many people actually collect sports memorabilia simply because they want a piece of history. For them, they generally already understand the importance of keeping their investment in a secure spot away from wandering fingers. Although most bats that are autographed have seen at least some play, they can lose value if touched by sticky or greasy fingers. Therefore keeping them in baseball bat cases keeps their value up and their condition perfect.

The most popular design is the type that can hang on the wall. The reason is simple in that a signed bat is something you want everyone to see. Many professional men and women have baseball bat cases proudly hung on a wall in their office. It’s not only a wonderful accent piece for any room, but it’s also an unusual conversation piece.

Wood seems to be the choice of most sports fan that are into this type of collecting. Many wood baseball bat cases come with a metal plate that can be inscribed. It’s a nice idea to have the name of the player, their number and the date the bat was signed engraved on the plate. This is a great hint for anyone who may not have the same love of the game as the collector.

Sliding glass doors make for easy access to the bat itself. Although if you are the owner, you probably aren’t going to want too many people handling the bat, it’s nice to have the option of removing it now and again. Although some baseball bat cases come with a lock, this is really only necessary if the bat is very valuable or if there is a risk of someone touching it.

Parents may opt for the locked choice as kids tend to find things like baseball bats particularly interesting. No parent wants to come home to find that their Little Leaguer has gotten their hands on the bat and has taken it to practice. Although you can certainly explain to a youngster that any of the bats in the baseball bat cases are off limits, keeping it locked will ensure they’ll be restricted to admiring it from afar.
